A Message from Our Principal

Dear De Anza Families,
It is with great excitement that I will serve the De Anza Elementary School community this coming school year as the principal. I am honored to be part of this amazing community and to help your child become the very best that they can be. It has been a pleasure to have been a member of the Dragon family for the past three and half years. I have served the Baldwin Park Unified School District community for 27 years as a middle school math teacher, high school math teacher, district math Teacher on Special Assignments, assistant principal, and Principal. I truly look forward to this exciting 2023–2024 school year and am honored to lead a great school with a strong community.
We welcome some new staff members to De Anza Elementary. Veronica Morfin will be our new School Psychologist and Norma Aguilar Rosales will be our new English Language Program Advisor. Both of these ladies previously worked at Pleasant View Elementary and we are excited they are able to join the De Anza community. We will also welcome Annette Licata who will be our Teacher on Special Assignment. Ms. Licata comes to use with a vast knowledge and experience and she will be working with our students in Kindergarten through grade 2 in Reading. As you may know, one of our goals at De Anza is to make sure students are able to read at grade level when they enter third grade.
The office staff has been working hard to make sure your child is registered, finalizing class lists, making sure each student will have access to a Chromebook and textbooks, and that classrooms have adequate supplies. The custodial staff has been awesome in cleaning all of the classrooms and common areas so students can have a clean learning atmosphere to start the new school year. If you see on the next page, you will see your child’s classroom and the teacher they are assigned to for this upcoming school year. Please remember to have your child bring this letter on the first day of school so your child can locate his/her classroom.
De Anza Elementary School is a No Excuses University school so we strive to prepare our students for 21st-century skills and equip them to be college bound. We also persevere to instill the SIRR values (Safety, Integrity, Respect, & Responsibility) in each of our students. We create an environment for your child to flourish and learn to work through their struggles, to find the possible in the impossible with your help as parents by partnering with the school. Once again, I welcome you back to school and thank you for your commitment to your child’s education, I look forward to seeing you in the very near future.
Sincerely,
Caroline Kwak Lau
Principal
